FUNKE OSAE-BROWN

The warm February breeze swept across the large Admiralty Road, Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria, as I brought the car to a halt in front of the Prest Boat House. I walked briskly to the Lagoon front. As expected, the show was under way. The red carpet rolled out. The boat was set as not a few people were seated on the terrace waiting for the call time to board.

It was an evening of love and glamour put together by Television Continental (TVC), one of the leading media organisations in Nigeria on Saturday February 13, 2015 to celebrate the Valentine’s Day. It was a good way for the teeming fans, friends and celebrities of the TV show Loving And Being Intimate (L.A.B.I) to have an intimate time with the show host, LABI.

Over time, the show has been able to mend broken hearts, rekindle and transform love relationships, by offering advice and tips that transform words and body language in a way that connect with the partners where it matters of the heart.

Although it was the maiden edition of the love sharing event, #BoatCruiseWithLABI, attendees were treated to finest of comedy, cuisine and wine.

A few minutes past five, celebrities like Tunde and Wunmi Obe, Queen Salawa Abeni and her son walked the red carpet for a chat with the female host for the evening. A little later, our boarding was announced. We all walked the red carpet one after the other, the orange life jacket worn around our necks.

The tables were well laid in theme colours of red and white. Chocolates were placed on each plate while fine wines, exotic juices and more were neatly arranged. With the array of music churned out by the DJ playing, one could tell we were in for a great time.

As dusk fell on the landscape of Lagos Island, we finally began sailing at 7pm. The boat gently moving to the Lagoon tide, offered the right atmosphere for couples on board to unwind and let their guard down.

Bash, Falz and SLKomedy did a good job hosting the event as they made everyone laugh out their hearts. They kept the atmosphere charged with their top-notch comedy throughout the two- hour cruise.
