NU MI Design House Holds Exhibition Of Rare Furniture In Lagos

LASWA Yard, at Falomo Jetty, Falomo was a beehive of activities on Saturday as lovers of bespoke furniture were treated to an exclusive viewing of some of finest pieces produced by some famous Nigeria artists.

Organised by NU MI Design House, an integrated interior design, procurement, bespoke furniture manufacturer and homeware product designer, the exhibition was a showing of the best of Nigerian creative industry. 

It afforded interior design aficionados the opportunity to view how best visual art interacts with space.

A somewhat exclusive outing for designers like Lani, Tosin Oshinowo, Alaga collections, Funferekoroye, Kelechi Odu and Oguma Adegoke whose minimalist designs interacted freely with artworks from renowned artists like Polly Alakija, Ghariokwu Lemi, Olumide Onadipe and a curated selection from the Nike Art Gallery.

Tanwa Newbold, Creative Director and Founder, NU MI Design House observed that Nigerian art has captured the imagination of a global audience and introduced a new generation of world-renowned artists to an eager public.

She argues that the emerging Nigerian design sector and a range of creative collaborations between art and design are taking it to a new level, are less well known. It is for this reason she started the NU MI Design exhibition to showcase the works of emerging and well-established artist including the role art plays in interior design.

Furthermore, the large hall was filled with interesting, creatively designed pieces with a stunning umbrella installation by Polly Alakija whose brilliant colours made it stand out above as guests walked into the exhibition space.

There were other leading Nigerian artists whose works is gradually establishing the emergence of a different kind of exclusive minimalist furniture designs in Nigeria.

“I met the designers and the artists one-on-one before I decided to showcase their pieces. For me, there was the personal touch to all the pieces you see displayed here today. We are proud of their works and they are the new face of emerging designs in the Nigerian furniture industry,” added Newbold.

The event is supported by LASWA, the owners of the Yard venue, Bank of Industry, Plascon Paints and La Connaisseur, the exclusive concept store for wine lovers.
